Graduation day!

Sunday, June 29th, 2008

My little brother and my little cousin both graduated High School today! My whole family is really excited, some seem kind of surprised that my brother made it (as I think they were when I did). I wasn’t too surprised though, high schools a joke and he treated it like one lol. Got through though so good for him. Now its off to College. Lets see how this one goes.

keystone vs bud light

Wednesday, June 25th, 2008

Theres really no competition, bud light over keystone hands down right? Well, its not always that simple for a college student who is generally on an extremely tight budget. I’ve noticed while living up in the college section of Albany that most kids go with the Beast (Keystone) because it just more affordable. Hey they both get you drunk right? Look at the numbers, a 30 pack of bud light in most places is around 24.99 whereas a 30 pack of keystone is about 13.99. You can almost get twice as much keystone for the same price, to a broke college student thats just Economics 101. There is hope though! Our local grocery outlet, Price Chopper has started selling cold 30 packs of Bud Light for $15.99! Thats just TWO dollars more then a 30 of keystone! This is a new sale, but one I am promoting thouroughly and I expect to see a lot more college students walking around with 30 packs of bud light instead of keystone by next semester.

Moving back to the island?

Friday, June 20th, 2008

I might be moving back to the island for July and August to work at my grandfather’s sporting good store. I can’t find a decent job up at Albany and I need something to do during the day. I’m going to have to be away from my girlfriend for a while, so thats unfortunate, but oh well gotta make that money right? Hopefully I can make enough to pay rent and utilities for the next 7-8 months that way I don’t have to worry about money during the next semester when I’ll be busting my ass doing my last group of classes before graduation.

Info Tech or Comp Sci?

Tuesday, June 17th, 2008

Being a computer whiz since I first laid hands on a keyboard, its no shock that I’ve decided to stick with what I know best and continue learning about computer throughout college. Computers and people who know how to use them will always be in high demand. The question a computer student is faced with in College is which field to go for, Information Science or Computer Science. There is a huge difference between the two.

Computer Science is all about programming, from the most basic binary code to the most basic C++ codes. If you are interested in creating programs, reprogramming hardware, writing scripts, or databasing…this is the way to go. Be forewarned though, computer science is an extremely difficult major to complete and programmers tend to work in isolation.

Information Science is a more general computer discipline, focussing on networking, web design, security, information databasing, etc. I have decided to go for information science because the jobs offered by it tend to be more social and the classes aren’t as brutal. I was originally Comp Sci and made the switch over this semester and I am very happy I did.

Gas prices are ridiculous

Friday, June 13th, 2008

I paid $4.25/gal today. Oh how i miss the good ol days of $2.50…I never got to enjoy the 90 cent gallons of gas because I got my license right around when we went into Iraq. It never ceases to amaze me that we basically took over the highest oil producing country in the world, yet we’re paying 4 times as much as we were before hand for gas. If you buy a Mcdonalds, do you pay 5$ for a cheeseburger? I don’t think so…I guess global politics and economy are beyond me.

95+ in Albany

Tuesday, June 10th, 2008

Wow. This heat is really unbareable. 95+, coming out of a couple of weeks of beautiful 70-80 weather. Unfortunately our new place has no convenient places to put an AC, all of our windows push out and make a 45 degree angle from the window, so we can’t really place it there. We’re experimenting with putting it in the window in the kitchen, which happens to be the only window where we can put one in. Its a ways from the living area but after a little while it should keep the whole place cold. I sure hope so, I’m gunna die of heatstroke soon otherwise. Jeez.

Summers in Albany

Saturday, June 7th, 2008

Well its the end of the school year, finals have taken their toll and about 95% of the students attending SUNY Albany or St.Rose have gone home for the summer. Theres positives and negatives to this. I like that I can find on-street parking and having some breathing room at the bars. The negatives of course are obvious - theres nobody to hang out with! I actually lucked out a little bit, my neighbor from my old apartment and some people I know through him are staying up here and my girlfriend got a place up here too. So I guess I can’t complain too much. Also both my roommates are staying in Albany and my old roommate and a kid I know from high school are up here as well. The weather is hot as hell. Today it reached 95 degrees, the only way I am able to get internet is on my girlfriend’s 2nd story porch, so I’m just out here baking right now. Think I’ll wrap this up and go back inside where its kinda cool :)
